The 2026 rules keep the broad family umbrella, and the mechanics of who joins when are more flexible than most applicants realise: family members do not need to be in the first application.

Who qualifies as family

• Spouse or legal partner (including registered partners)
• Children under 18 — automatic dependents
• Adult children: unmarried, enrolled in full-time education, financially dependent
• Parents of either spouse: 65+ or younger with documented dependency (e.g. care or support needs)

Joining now vs reunification later

Adding everyone at the start means one AIMA appointment cycle for all — but family members can also join later through reunification, which suits split timelines: the investor proceeds, the spouse finishes a school year, the child completes a degree, the parents join after a trial winter. Each addition files through AIMA with the same family-evidence standards.
